Olga Lah is a second generation Korean-American, born and raised in Torrance, California. She has resided in Long Beach for the past 13 years. She received a double B.A. in Studio Art and Art History from the University of California at Riverside. She also received an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. Her interest in exploring ideas of existence are explored in large-scale, site-specific installations. She engages with themes of transcendence, perception and phenomenological experience. She has exhibited extensively including at the Orange County Museum of Art, Newport Beach; Torrance Art Museum, Torrance; Craft Contemporary, Los Angeles; Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions; Los Angeles International Airport. Her work has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, LA Weekly, OC Weekly, KCET Artbound and Los Angeles Magazine.

Lucent Shifts is an art installation made from discarded material. Sheets of reflective plastic are attached together to create a glistening presence, its surface constantly transforming to mirror its active and moving surroundings. The work’s free form is ambiguous and places significance on an intuitive encounter of the work.

The piece is about a progression of emerging transcendence that interrupts ordinary space. The installation aims to alter the context of its site in order to invite a chance moment of reflection. It creates a sense of thaumazein, or wonder, a Greek philosophical term that engages with how the experience with astonishment points to greater truths about the everyday. The encounter with this work intends to explore how an experience can bring about an unfolding of perspectives.
